IPAS Fund Hosts Asia Indigenous Peoples Reception

Indigenous Peoples of Asia Solidarity (IPAS) joined New York Climate Week to amplify the voices and concerns of Indigenous peoples in Asia, who are at the frontlines of climate change impacts yet are often overlooked in global climate discourse. As climate change accelerates, Indigenous peoples face severe threats to their lands, livelihoods, and cultural heritage, which are deeply connected to nature. However, their traditional knowledge and sustainable practices offer vital solutions for environmental conservation and climate resilience.

New York Climate Week presents a critical platform for IPAS to engage with global leaders, policymakers, and civil society to advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in climate action. By participating, IPAS aims to ensure that climate policies and actions respect the rights of Indigenous peoples, protect their lands, and recognize their role as guardians of critical ecosystems.

Furthermore, IPAS seeks to highlight the necessity of stronger legal protections and resource access for Indigenous communities, pushing for climate justice that centers on equity, respect for human rights, and environmental stewardship. The week provides a unique opportunity to build alliances, foster collaboration, and raise awareness of the urgent need for global solidarity in addressing the climate crisis with Indigenous peoples at the core of the solution.

In addition to participating in New York Climate Week to advocate for Indigenous peoples’ rights in facing the climate crisis, IPAS is also celebrating its launch alongside Indigenous Peoples Asia. This moment is expected to open new opportunities for IPAS to build connections with various stakeholders attending the event, including world leaders, civil society organizations, and other key players. IPAS’s presence at this global event not only strengthens the position of Indigenous peoples in climate discussions but also marks the beginning of expanding its network of collaborations, which will enhance IPAS’s role for the Indigenous Peoples in Asia.
