Indigenous women in Asia carry the stories, struggles, and hopes of their communities—they lead with courage, protect what matters, and remind us all of the power of unity and care.
IPAS FUND proudly witnessed a historic milestone at the First General Assembly of the Network of Indigenous Women in Asia (NIWA), held from May 21 to 24.

In Chiang Mai, Thailand, Indigenous women from across the region came together in unity, strength, and determination to shape the future of their movement.
The Assembly began with a meaningful visit to Mae Tha Village, Mae On District, where we observed the vital roles women play in sustaining their communities and traditions.

IPAS FUND had the honor of witnessing the powerful journey of NIWA members as they came together to form their leadership team—a significant step forward in their shared mission to uplift voices, strengthen leadership, and uphold the rights of Indigenous women across Asia.
With commitment and collective vision, NIWA elected its new leaders:
♦️Chair: Ms. Kesheli Cishi – Indigenous Women Forum of North East India (IWFNEI)
♦️Secretary: Ms. Rinda – Association of The Indigenous Peoples in Ryukyus (AIPR)
♦️South Asia Representative: Ms. Falguni Tripura – Bangladesh Indigenous Women Network (BIWN)
♦️Southeast Asia Representative: Ms. Maslah Rompado – Pertubuhan Wanita Orang Asal Malaysia (PWOAM)
♦️East Asia Representative: Ms. Su Hsin – Papora Indigenous Development Association (PIDA)
♦️Mekong Representative: Ms. Rochum Munny – Cambodia Indigenous Women Association (CIWA)

This assembly was a moment of transformation. We celebrate this new chapter of NIWA and stand in solidarity with Indigenous women across Asia as they continue to lead, advocate, and rise.✨
