Joan Carling, Honored as 2024 Right Livelihood Laureate

We are proud to share the exciting news that Joan Carling, Chairperson of the Board of the Indigenous Peoples of Asia Solidarity (IPAS) Fund, has been named one of the 2024 Right Livelihood Laureates. This prestigious recognition is awarded to individuals who demonstrate unwavering dedication to creating a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.

“Indigenous Peoples face constant struggle: we’re evicted from our lands for both extractive projects and the green transition, yet our social development is ignored in the context of so-called sustainable development. All of us need to think about how we use our natural resources sustainably for the benefit of everyone and not the few.”

Through her leadership and commitment, Joan Carling continues to uplift communities across Asia and beyond, fighting for the rights, recognition, and protection of Indigenous Peoples. Her work reminds us all of the importance of collective action in addressing environmental and social justice.

This remarkable achievement reflects the strength of Indigenous Peoples’ movements and the critical role of leaders like Joan in ensuring their voices are heard on the global stage.
