Ketika angin bertiup kencang dan hujan mengancam, masyarakat di Thailand utara telah lama membakar buah Spondias pinnata \u2014 tanaman yang terkait erat dengan ritual, spiritualitas, dan pengetahuan musiman yang diwariskan dari generasi ke generasi.

Saat ini, perubahan iklim mengganggu siklus hidup \u201csom poi\u201d dan ritme musiman yang mengikutinya. Seiring memanjangnya kekeringan dan hujan yang semakin tidak teratur, tradisi hidup ini \u2014 dan hubungan ekologis yang mereka wujudkan \u2014 semakin memudar dari kehidupan sehari-hari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSekarang pohon Spondias pinnata semakin sedikit, dan kami juga melihat penurunan dalam beberapa kegiatan komunitas. Perubahan cuaca memengaruhi buahnya; terkadang tidak sempurna, atau bunganya semakin sedikit, dan buahnya tidak bertahan lama sebelum menjadi rapuh dan tidak dapat digunakan. Masalah penting lainnya adalah jika kami merebus Spondias pinnata di dekat jalan, orang-orang dari desa lain akan datang dan mengumpulkannya untuk dijual. Terutama sebelum Songkran, orang-orang dari dalam maupun luar komunitas akan datang mencari Spondias pinnata, bahkan sampai berebut.\u201d

Cerita ini mengingatkan kita bahwa perubahan iklim bukan hanya krisis lingkungan. Ini juga merupakan krisis budaya dan spiritual, yang memengaruhi sistem pengetahuan masyarakat adat, praktik, serta hubungan mereka dengan tanah dan tumbuhan.
